HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes...I know...I know...it has been a couple of weeks since I have posted anything.
We all know how I LOVE THE HOLIDAYS! That was sarcasm in case you don't have a sense of humor (please leave....now...). So I have 3 brats and 2 German Shepard's and we are ,"fostering" a baby puppy...fostering meaning I am keeping her. I am. I am willing to trade in FireDaddy...
|Lilo and Hilda....training..who needs that??|
So now you get it , right?? Seriously...does not get cuter than this...ever...she is mine...MINNNE!
Time for our reviews, I have been reading like someone who doesn't have 3 dogs or 3 kids...
The first is by one of my longtime favorite authors..he writes the Samantha Moon series (please refer to previous reviews..not Twilight people...go back to watching Biebster videos..)...J. R. Rain.
I have had Jim Knighthorse books downloaded for the past year...why have I not read them?? I'll tell you why. They weren't Samantha Moon ! Once I get hooked on a series I can't seem to bring myself to read something else the author has written...why? I don't know...
I read all 3 in 3 days...that's right. I ignored relatives, phone calls ...kids..(but not Lilo! Never!)...I may even like these books more...wait...I didn't mean that Samantha....as much....
Here is the first of three....and it's free...RIGHT NOW! Load up those kindle's, smarty pants phones, whatever!!!
This is the description of book via Amazon:
When high school student Derrick Booker, the only black student at a posh Orange County high school, is accused of killing his white girlfriend, ex-college football hero and detective Jim Knighthorse is hired to dig a little deeper into the murder. It doesn't take long for Knighthorse to realize that not all is as it seems at tranquil Huntington High, from a band director who preys on the innocent to a vice-principal with a secret agenda of her own. Not to mention someone's hired a professional killer to keep Knighthorse permanently off the case.
As the investigation continues, Knighthorse's personal life is shattered by the discovery of new evidence relating to his mother's unsolved murder, a murder dating back twenty years. Reeling from the discovery, a determined Jim Knighthorse sets out to bring two killers to justice.
Jim Knighthorse is a P.I. who mother was murdered violently when he was 10. He is always looking out for the killer...and tends to self medicate with booze when alone. He is a ex college big wig football player, who had the talent to go pro- however nasty foul..ummmm..injury kept that from happening..although, for a time he does try to live the dream and work through his pain to see if he still ,"has it"...The character is 30 years old- with a very patient girlfriend, a father he hates (just in time for the holidays!) and a couple buddies who keep him entertained.
It seems to me this is a coming of age book for the character...if you started coming of age at 30. I always say being in my 30's is like being a sophmore..too old to hang with the freshman but not old enough to hang with the cool upperclassmen...Everything, whether it's family or work or ,"would have , should have, could have" seems to bite you in the ass...as it does Mr. Knighthorse.
He is extremely arrogant, but in a charming way. He is self destructive..he has a problem with alcohol but does this privately. He adores his girlfriend- who at times is a little too tolerant but it seems to work.
I am not a religious person (please refer to anti-catholic refrences in previous posts) however there is a character that claims to be God. God...or "Jack" meets our Jim at Mcdonald's. He is always there when Jim wants to yap- he looks like a bum off a street, smelly and dirty. However, if there is something to religon...Jack is exactly how I imagined God to be. I absolutely loved their conversations...dare I say I was slightly teary??
These were fantastic books. Mystery , fun....and slightly tear jerking...the characters cracked me up and the writing flowed so well I didn't look up once in 3 days.. .. Get this book ..NOW. If you don't like it, then you have absolutely no taste and are probably a Michael Buble fan. Just kidding!!..I think..
I have downloaded just about all of J.R. Rain's books this week- I am open to all!! Look at me! ...First..there is a new Samantha Moon book to read, but I promise I will read his others.....I WILL!!
On to the next........I have reviewed one of his books before (previous post with creepy cat man Xmas card)....this book is OUTLAWED LOVE by Jason Krumbine....
Now...you prudish folks out there...I know the cover is slightly ...off putting..here me out. I like this man's writing..no one was more thrown off than Moi over this. I am not a good romance reader. I resort to Jr. High snickering...so let me calm you down...
HAY!! Look at me not at the cover! I can calm your fragile senses by telling you this book does not contain any swashbuckling pirates or chippendale superhero's .....
I for one, find the cover slightly misleading...although the model is very photogenic , I have never been so blasted happy to own a kindle....I would have died 1000 deaths if FireDaddy saw this. Why you ask? Would he be jealous? No...Would he think I was some whoring tramp? (He wishes) No....He would make fun of me until I cried that's why!!!!! I had to make sure not to gaze upon it too long- I did check to make sure that I was reading the correct book...it happens...you never know when a computer glich could cause your kindle books to get covers mixed up...ahem...yes...so periodically ..check your cover and make sure your reading the right book! Check it a few times...yep...I am nothing if not thourough..
This book was fun.....just what I needed to get me through Xmas Eve!!! Which I read it in one night...I know...I know...She's a Marshall , he is a prisoner that she has to escort to Miami...plane ride goes wrong and for reasons I CAN'T DISCUSS they have to run....it slightly reminded me of my favorite Clooney movie...he is the prisoner...Lopez is cop? This book has lots of action...panicky moments...and smoochiness for you sickos...but not overkill...I appreciate writers who can write a smoochy scene without making the reader feel like they are voyeurs.
So if you are a book snob and hiss when you look at cover...uummm stop looking..BACK TO ME!..then load up your kindle...no one will see it...tell them your reading War and Peace....
I believe I read something about a possible sequel...or maybe I am hoping for one??
Until later...and please...authors who are sending books to me through IBC or Your Need to Read...do not give up hope!! I am reading them as we speak...I will get to them soon.....I PROMISE!!!!
Load up that kindle...NOW. It's a great way to start the new year! :)
