Dead Case in Deadwood (Deadwood Mystery Series #3) by Ann Charles and C.S. Kunkle

Hello my People-

How I have been neglecting you..why you ask? You didn't ask? Well, you should have, warning #1.

My sad tale begins on the sacred off all holidays...no not Xmas (ick...) but St. Patty's Day. Anyone who knows me , knows I begin the day with horrid St. Patty's day dash...and true to form it rained, then snowed..Starting to think it is me as this combination happens every time I show up.

Queen Tarra...keeping busy while I was dying.

Well, my beloved EYM was out of town and did not run with me...never fear, my friend (Queen Tarra) from ,"the place I spend my days and get paid" joined. Her Husband was running so there you go. Everything was lining up  ...heck there was even a PARTY BUS that drove us to the run and back to the bar at the end . No parking, no swearing at woman in parking lot for trying to cut as I clearing pointed out," I AM FREEZING MY ASS OFF LADY.....BACK IN LINE!!".

Then a black cloud of doom formed over  my Glory Day. ...FireDaddy (husband...for now) decided he wanted to join. First of all, I throw my time chips away as I don't want to know my time..I hate running..HATE IT, but this run I enjoy. It's mine..MINE.

I know it's wrong, I know it's unnatural but when FireDaddy joined up I only had one focus and one focus only,  I must beat him. I will run my Mother over, your Mother over, throw in your Grandmother....she's going down to.

FireDaddy says he will play by the rules. I spent all week on FBook kindly reminding him of this...

Example A.   ME: "Stay away from me at the run..STAY AWAY!! Your ruining my XMAS!"

Example B:   Posted this on Queen Tarra's wall so she understood that FireDaddy knew the rules...

"Brace yourself....FireDaddy  has been cheating on me...that's right..He has been heading to the station..ON HIS DAYS OFF..and running on the treadmill...I just through a Cam (Mod Fam)  worthy tantrum and threw DOWN the sandwich he made me on the counter while yelling," WHY ARE YOU SO COMPETITIVE!!!?? YOUR RUINING MY XMAS!!" (aka St. Patty's day)."

We line up ...right before we take off..FireDaddy turns around and says," I AM GOING TO KICK YOUR ASS!"..That's right....he did. Now I have a bad back- disc issues..thank you for the sympathy.
2 miles of this run was uphill...I can not run uphill quickly as disc will slip. However, off I ran like a gazelle...until I rounded the corner..and back went out... I hope your sitting...I had to walk 5 minutes..I have NEVER WALKED in a 5k..EVER.

I hated running..I hated FireDaddy...I hated that EYM was not there and I  hated Detlef Schrempf  for organizing this stupid day.

Jason and Grant:)

I round the corner to see a most welcoming sight. Jason ( Paramedic and Calender boy who has to work with FireDaddy) and his bf Grant ( the only Crossfit person I have ever liked...), and FireDaddy-who I snubbed. When asked how it went , I humiliated myself my tearing up and declaring my need for a divorce lawyer.

Now, I pride myself in letting things go...HAHAHAHA! I could barely type that! I had accidentally switched time chips ..so on the site it shows I came in first, FireDaddy second.  Also, I ordered him a shirt a size to small. Accident? Ok.....

Notice the shirt...Don't mess with the Master

Now, I have to say, this run was 3.75miles (5k +). My time is none of your business but let it be known, for dragging myself in my weakened state across the finish line, it was not too shabby.

The day continued and they served Guinness on the PARTY BUS home... I had only had coffee that day and was quite thirsty, the three I gulped down numbed the pain considerably.

After the three Guinness's....
Tiny Queen Tarra..Big Me...squat...

Now, on to the book review. I had been waiting patiently for Ann to speed it up and bring my beloved Violet back to me. I checked in every once in a while ....possibly stalking her facebook page only with encouraging motivation..,"Hurry up! I can't wait much longer!!!"..

"Nothing good ever happens at the butt-crack of dawn. No doubt, the headless corpse on the autopsy table in front of me would agree."--Violet Parker

'Real estate agent, Violet "Spooky" Parker stumbles upon a body-part theft ring at the local funeral parlor and suspects her caustic coworker has a hand in it--or maybe a foot. Can Violet discover what's in the crates the crooks are sneaking out of the mortuary in the dark of night? Or will she end up in one of them herself ... in pieces?'   (Amazon description)

Notice the cover..C.S. Kunkle illustrated. Again, for those who have been living under a rock, the cover is everything. I actually bought Ann's first book in the series because of the fantastic cover. I loved it! I can't begin to tell you how many books I have turned down due to the hideous covers..spend the money if ,unlike Ann, you don't have a professional artist in your family. Who probably charged her- but let's hope she got a great deal..brothers, you never know.

This is #3 in the series. Oh the same characters are back..vile Ray, and I mean VILE. Her best friend Natalie (ohhhh....I can't say anything...aaaak), the family and of course Doc...

This book was just as great as the last two. It doesn't feel like three separate stories but a continuing story. I can't decide which of the three is my favorite. Let's just say, things are answered.....I can say NO MORE!!!

Violet has herself involved in a whole new mess. I don't think the woman will ever attract a normal client- this one makes the last two from previous books look tame. Money is money and it is hysterical to see how far she is willing to go in order for  commission. Doc and her are doing well- she continues to drive all  insane by keeping the relationship away from Natalie. Natalie is still on the hunt for Doc and is clueless to what is really going on. Maddening!! I can say no more...except, start with,' Nearly Departed in Deadwood' first in series..otherwise you'll be lost.

Now, hurry up and write #4 Ann!!!!

'Trail of the Spellmans- Document #5'-Lisa Lutz

Happy Sunday! Or Happy Countdown to another week of work...you only have a few hours left folks...

I hate Sunday...for so many reasons. Obviously- Monday Eve....laundry..homework...whatever...back to the grind.

The positive? Walking Dead! Yep- that's how pathetic I am ...that is my highlight..make a good out of a bad scenario right?

Today Kids, I am going to review...'Trail of the Spellmans"- by Lisa Lutz...this is the 5th book in the series...and sweet Jesus it better not be the last. Can I profess my love for this series? First of all , I'm Izzy..without a responsible husband (I married Henry- less clean version) 3 Select Soccer Money Suckers..and the irritating siblings (only child-..jealous??).

FOR THE FIRST TIME in Spellman history, Isabel Spellman, PI, might be the most normal member of her family. Mom has taken on an outrageous assortment of extracurricular activities—with no apparent motive. Dad has a secret. Izzy’s brother and sister are at war—for no apparent reason. And her niece keeps saying “banana” even though she hates bananas.

That’s not to say that Izzy isn’t without her own troubles. Her boyfriend, Henry Stone, keeps wanting “to talk,” a prospect Isabel evades by going out with her new drinking buddy, none other than Gertrude Stone, Henry’s mother.

Things aren’t any simpler on the business side of Spellman Investigations. First, Rae is hired to follow a girl, only to fake the surveillance reports. Then a math professor hires Izzy to watch his immaculate apartment while he unravels like a bad formula. And as the questions pile up, Izzy won’t stop hunting for the answers—even when they threaten to shatter both the business and the family.

Like Izzy, I don't do well with disappointment. I have been known to throw a fit or 5. New parents make me want to climb the walls in terror. And..yes, I have been known to climb through a couple of windows when needed. Seriously, who wants to be woken up at 2 am to open a door? Parents, your welcome.
Apology for holding me hostage for weeks at a time to teach me some sort of lesson- accepted.

Izzy, as stated in my previous Spellman review, is the middle kid of a family PI business...older brother has gone from golden child to non-existent boring Dad. Youngest sibling, Rae, is in college...and a severe pain in the neck...and still rocking the orange jumpsuit when needed. Her parents are still off, and her Grandma is moving in. Izzy is determined to avoid her home with Henry at all costs and has a eclectic client base that would drive anyone to drink.

Henry situation has made me a little sad, his Mother, Gertrude,  made me remember why my Grandma always advised me to marry someone whose parents have already died.

I loved this book...how many series can you say that about (except J.A. Konrath..duh)? In some ways Izzy has grown up, in some ways she has stayed the same.

These books aren't cheap..but I am. Wait- that did not sound right. I meant to say- books are pricey, but I had no problem clicking ,"buy".

Start at #1- The Spellman Files.

My only concern after finishing this book......will there be another Miss Lutz???
